Sun Deck Set Cogitation

Wed 1 – Fri 3 Mar, 11am – 9pm | Terrace Room | FREE
An immersive audio-visual installation of Simon Perril’s poem 'Sun Deck Set Cogitation', with found and digitally realised sounds by composer John Young.

This immersive audio-visual installation is a setting of Simon Perril’s Sun Deck Set Cogitation – a poem derived from two texts by anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss: a detailed notebook description of a sunset written in 1935 while en route from Marseilles to Brazil and a 1941 voyage on which he escaped occupied France.

Composer John Young’s setting is a spatialised palimpsest of Perril’s reading with found and digitally realised sounds, re-mapped into a unique meditation on experience in-the-moment.

Part of DMU’s Cultural eXchanges festival.
